Protecting the Environment

For fifty years, Dave Romero has served the City of San Luis Obispo. His efforts to protect our environment and to improve our quality of life include:

• Planting and maintenance of 12,000 city street trees, resulting in the Tree City USA award for 25 years
• Creation and management of SLO recycling programs
• Continued improvement of our city and community parks
• Acquisition of 5500 acres of open space
• Installation and maintenance of over 25 miles of bike lanes
• Creation and management of city and regional public transportation systems
• Implementing water reuse program for landscape, ball field and golf course irrigation
• Many years of supervising creek maintenance programs to provide open waterways, while preserving overhead shade to protect fish life
• Maintenance and improvement of 100 miles of city streets so as to relieve traffic congestion and improve air quality.
• Collecting, treating, and disposing of city sewage to meet all state standards
